Can deep strategy actually work on a phone?
I used to think complex strategy belonged on a desk with a mouse. A few games changed my mind. The good ones don't dumb down the strategy — they rethink the interface so a small screen can handle it.
Ironclad Dominion is a fair example. It packs resource management and long-game planning into menus that actually make sense on touch. Nested panels, smart shortcuts, a map that pans without a fight.
The trade-off is pacing. Phone strategy games tend to be slow-burn, which suits the format — you dip in, make a few decisions, and put it down. Turns out that fits busy life better than a marathon session.
If you've written off the genre on mobile, give a patient one a proper week. The depth is there; it just asks you to meet it halfway.
